Buildings and Vehicles
Look at your buildings and vehicles
-
These are often the most actionable items to decarbonise because:
There is usually a technical solution, be it EVs, heat pumps, solar panels etc
It’s often commercially worthwhile to make changes through reduced energy and/or operating costs, and if not, grant funding sometimes exists to pay for it
Value Chain
Consider the value chain
-
Do you offer a material product (rather than service) – the way this is transported, used and disposed of are likely to be significant sources of emissions. Can you work with in-house departments, customers or supply chain to reduce costs and emissions?
If you provide a service, look at what you buy. Choosing ethical suppliers (such as BCorps) often means they’ll be open to discussing or reducing their carbon footprint which means you can manage your emissions
How do staff travel? Look at the transport hierarchy and consider how and when staff travel compared to the value it provides
